Spanish Cashmere Goats

Spanish goats came to North America with Christopher Columbus in 1493. These goats were chosen for the trip as the Spanish knew that they would survive and multiply and provide fresh meat for the trip. While other species required grass to survive, the tough, adaptable goats grazed brush and scrub and they thrived.

The Spanish goat is tough, hardy and adaptable.  They don’t require pampering or supplemental feeding and are great for brush control. Spanish goats usually require less hoof trimming and are more parasite resistant than other breeds. They also produce excellent meat. Cashmere Spanish goats also produce fine cashmere hair. Does kid twins and triplets with ease and raise their young without assistance.

Our Goats

In April 2009, we decided to venture into Spanish Cashmere Goats.  We started with four bred does and a young buck. It wasn't long before we increased our herd with a few more does and a second buck.    We now have 2 unrelated bucks and a dozen does with some interesting colours that should add a bit of variety to our herd.

We cross bred our Nubian does with our Spanish bucks for the 2010 kidding season, resulting in some very cute kids.
